Valley Forge
York, Pennsylvania
CCLBPA 1825
Description : Verse: Warmest thoughts and best wishes for a wonderful holiday and a very happy new year
Historical Notes:"Valley Forge was the site of the six month encampment of the newly formed Continental Army under the command of General George Washington. The Continental Congress after fleeing Philadelphis in advance of the British occupation was west of Valley Forge in York Pennsylvania.
Though no battle was ever fought here, Valley Forge was chosen for its defensible terrain and served as protection for the Continental Congress in York and kept the British from moving West.
The winter was cold and severe, living conditions harsh, the Continental Army between December 1777 and June 1778 learned discipline, self-confidence and became a formidable fighting force."
